Menuka Thapa is Chairperson of Raksha Nepal, an NGO in Nepal which since 2004 has worked to protect women and young girls working in the so called ‘informal entertainment sector’ from trafficking and sexual violence. Raksha Nepal is an important partner in our research project which is amongst other things obtaining qualitative data relating to the lives of women working in this sector and their experience of violence.
Menuka herself has a very moving personal story and in this video she talks about her childhood and the very difficult experiences that lead eventually to her taking on her role within Raksha Nepal where she now champions the rights of women in Nepal who are working in this ‘informal entertainment sector’.
