In this interview Farkhanda Waseem Afzal, the Punjab Ombudsperson, starts by explaining the creation of this role in March 2013 which followed on from the Protection against Harassment of Women in the Workplace Act which was passed by the National Assembly of the Federal Government in October 2010. She explains how complaints can complain to the Ombudsperson’s office under this Act. If harassment is established penalties can be imposed according to the Act. Awareness of the Act and the Ombudsperson’s office is being raised, with campaigns already carried out in half the Districts. This campaign will also deter potential assailants and promote a safer work environment.
