Introduction
Within this first theme, we will examine the importance of context and how this influences behaviours and the nature of gender roles. We will introduce some important concepts that are relevant to gender studies, and we will also take an introductory look at the social ecology framework which is a useful tool for developing an understanding of context. Our short e-learning course also presents the opportunity to learn more about the Women, Work and Violence in South Asia study, and to conclude this unit, you are invited to select one of the countries studied and find out more about the context in that country.
