Ugochi Nkwunonwo is a full-time research student at the School of Area studies, History, politics and literature, University of Portsmouth, United Kingdom. She holds a Master of Arts degree in Religion and Society from the University of Nigeria in West Africa, and works with young people in various capacities, including having once been a school administrator.
Her research focuses on the commercialisation of babies (commonly known as baby factory) in Nigeria. She interrogates the political, judicial, ideological, moral incentives and social responsibilities of addressing the glaring and weak policies in Nigeria’s readiness to deal with baby factory activities.
Her research creates a new way, which combines social theories, primary research data and spatial analyses to make it possible to create a new policy system aimed at well-being of children and young people.
The elimination of harmful cultural behaviours that endanger women and children is her primary research concern. Other areas of interest include gender development, child poverty, the effect of the environment on women and children, and population health.
